Good to know about Compress PDF
Most government and job portals limit uploads to a few hundred KB, and many email services reject attachments above 20 to 25 MB. A scanned PDF from a phone app can easily be several MB, so it gets rejected. Compressing makes the file smaller so it goes through.
Lossless keeps the text exactly as it is but often saves little. Balanced and Smallest rebuild each page as a lighter picture, which cuts the size a lot for scans and photos. If a form gives an exact limit, use one of the fixed-size tools below, such as Compress PDF to 100 KB.
- Start with Balanced. Use Smallest only if the file is still too big.
- Zoom in on the result before you upload it. Small print, stamps and signatures must still be readable.
- Scans made in black and white are much smaller than colour scans of the same page.
- Keep your original file. You cannot get quality back from a compressed copy.
