How to resize your photo and signature for exam forms

Almost every exam form asks for a photo and a signature in a fixed size. Get it wrong and the upload button just says "file size not allowed". This guide shows you how to fix that in a few minutes.

Two kinds of size

Forms talk about size in two ways, and people often mix them up.

  • KB (file size) is how heavy the file is. A form may say "20 KB to 50 KB".
  • Pixels (picture size) is the width and height of the picture. A form may say "200 × 230 pixels".

Some forms ask for both. Your file has to meet both rules.

Step 1: Find the size in your notice

Open the official notification and search for the words "photograph" and "signature". Write down the KB range and the pixel size for each. Do not go by what a friend used last year. Rules change.

As a rough guide, bank exams such as IBPS and SBI usually ask for a photo of 200 × 230 pixels between 20 and 50 KB, and a signature of 140 × 60 pixels between 10 and 20 KB. SSC and Railway now take your photo live while you fill the form, so you may only need to upload the signature.

Step 2: Take a good photo

  1. Stand in front of a plain white or light wall.
  2. Face a window or a bright light, so there are no dark shadows on your face.
  3. Keep the phone at eye level and look straight at it.
  4. No cap and no dark glasses, unless the notice allows it.

Step 3: Sign on white paper

Sign with a black or dark blue pen on plain white paper. Make the signature a little bigger than usual and keep it inside a small box. Take a photo of it from straight above, in good light.

Step 4: Resize with Luvkaam

  1. Open the Photo & Signature Resizer.
  2. Pick your exam from the list, or type the size from your notice.
  3. Add your photo, then download the result.
  4. Do the same for the signature.

If your file is too small in KB, the tool can raise it to meet the minimum without changing how the picture looks.

Step 5: Check before you upload

  • Open the file on your phone and check the face and signature are clear.
  • Check the file is JPG if the form asks for JPG. If not, change it with Convert images.
  • Give it a simple name like photo.jpg or sign.jpg.

Your photo stays with you

The resizing happens on your own phone or computer. Your photo is not sent to Luvkaam.
