Are online PDF tools safe to use?

A PDF can hold your bank details, your Aadhaar copy, a medical report or a contract. Before you put it on a website, it is fair to ask where it goes.

How most online PDF tools work

Most free PDF sites send your file to their own computer, do the work there, and send the result back. This is called uploading. It is fast and easy for them. But it means a copy of your file travels across the internet and sits on someone else's machine for a while. Many sites say they delete files after some hours. You have to trust that.

How Luvkaam is different

Luvkaam's tools run inside your own browser. When you merge or compress a PDF, the work is done by code on your phone or laptop. The file is not sent to Luvkaam. We never receive it, so we cannot store it, lose it or read it.

The page does download some open-source code libraries, for example to read PDFs or to recognise text. Those are fetched from a public code network. They do not receive your files.

How you can check

You do not have to take our word for it. Open your browser's developer tools (press F12 on a computer), go to the Network tab, and use a tool. You will see the code libraries load. You will not see your file go out. If you turn off the internet after the page and its libraries have loaded, most tools still work.

What we do keep

If you register, we keep your name, email address and phone number, and which tools you used and on what day. We never keep your files or their contents. The Privacy Policy lists everything.

Five habits for any PDF site

  1. Read what it says about your files. If it says nothing, assume they are uploaded.
  2. Check that the address starts with https and the name is spelled correctly. Fake copies of popular sites exist.
  3. Do not use random sites for the most sensitive papers.
  4. Remove the password and other details you do not need to share before sending a file on.
  5. Lock files you email with a password, using Protect PDF.

An honest limit

Working in the browser is safer for your files, but it is not magic. Your device still needs to be clean and up to date. And a very large file may be slow on an old phone, because your phone does the work.
