Why turn a PDF into pictures?
Some places take pictures but not PDFs. A few online forms ask for a JPG of a certificate or marksheet. On WhatsApp or Instagram, a picture shows up straight away in the chat, while a PDF has to be opened first. And if you want one page of a PDF inside a slide or a poster, a picture is much easier to drop in.
Turning pages into pictures does not change your PDF. You still keep the original file.
Steps to convert PDF to JPG
- Open PDF to JPG on your phone or computer.
- Choose or drop your PDF.
- Keep JPG as the picture format.
- Pick the quality: Normal (100 dpi), High (150 dpi) or Very high (220 dpi). High is fine for most uses.
- If you only want some pages, type them in Pages, for example 1-3, 5. Leave it empty to convert every page.
- Press Convert to images and download.
If you picked one page, you get one picture. If you picked several pages, they come together in one ZIP file. Each picture is named after your PDF with the page number, such as marksheet-page-2.jpg, so they stay in order.
Opening the ZIP file
On Android, open the Files app, tap the ZIP and choose Extract. On an iPhone, tap the ZIP in the Files app and it opens into a folder. On a Windows computer, right-click the ZIP and choose Extract All. If you only need one page, it is quicker to type just that page number in Pages, so you get a single picture with no ZIP.
JPG or PNG: which one?
JPG makes smaller files. It is the better pick for scanned pages, photos and anything you will share or upload. Most forms that ask for a picture want JPG.
PNG keeps text and thin lines very crisp, but the files are bigger. Use it for diagrams, charts and slides, or when you plan to zoom into small text. You can choose PNG on the same tool, or open PDF to PNG directly.
Which quality should you pick?
- Normal (100 dpi): smallest files. Good for viewing on a phone.
- High (150 dpi): clear text and a sensible file size. The best default.
- Very high (220 dpi): for small print, fine tables or printing. Files are noticeably larger.
Higher quality means bigger pictures. If a form has a size limit, start with High. If the picture is still too big, use Resize image to 200 KB or Resize image to 100 KB to bring it down.
If something goes wrong
- The PDF asks for a password: remove it first with Unlock PDF (you need to know the password), then convert.
- A page number gives an error: check that the page exists in the PDF. A 4-page PDF has no page 6.
- The picture looks blurry: convert again with Very high (220 dpi).
- A very long PDF is slow: convert a few pages at a time. Everything happens on your own device, so an older phone may need a little longer.
