How to reduce PDF file size without losing quality
To reduce PDF file size without losing quality, open Compress PDF and pick Lossless: your text stays sharp and selectable, but the saving is often small. If the file is still too big, Balanced makes it much smaller and still easy to read.
Here is how to do both, and how to choose between them without guessing.
Reduce PDF size in five steps
- Open Compress PDF on your phone or computer.
- Choose your PDF. It can be up to 25 MB.
- Leave Target size on "No target" and pick Lossless as the level.
- Press Compress file. The page shows the old size and the new size.
- Happy with the size? Download it. Still too big? Run the original again with Balanced.
The work happens inside your browser. Your file is not sent to Luvkaam.
What "without losing quality" really means
A PDF can be made smaller in two very different ways, and it helps to know which one you are using.
Lossless cleans up the file and saves it in a tighter way. Nothing on the page changes. Text stays as real text, so you can still select it, search it and copy it. The catch: if your PDF is already tidy, there is not much to remove, so the saving may be only a few percent.
Balanced turns each page into a picture at about 100 dpi. That is where the big savings come from. The pages still look clear on a phone or laptop screen, which is what an online form or an email reader needs. But the text is now part of a picture, so you can no longer select or search it.
Smallest does the same at about 72 dpi. It gives the smallest file, but small print can look soft. Use it only when Balanced is not small enough.
So the honest answer is this: if you truly cannot lose any quality, use Lossless and accept a smaller saving. If you need a big drop in size, Balanced is the practical choice for most people.
When your form has a size limit
If a form says "PDF under 200 KB" or "under 1 MB", you do not have to try each level by hand. In Compress PDF, open Target size and choose the limit. The options go from 50 KB up to 2 MB.
The tool first checks whether the Lossless version already fits. If it does, you get that one, with text still selectable. If not, it tries a few quality steps and keeps the best quality that still fits under your limit.
You can also open a size page directly, such as compress PDF to 200 KB or compress PDF to 1 MB.
Which files shrink the most?
- Scanned PDFs and phone scans shrink the most. Every page is a large photo, and Balanced makes those photos much lighter.
- PDFs with many photos, like brochures or reports, also shrink well.
- Plain text PDFs made from Word are often already small. A one-page letter of 60 KB has little left to remove, and the tool will tell you so rather than hand you a bigger file.
Three tips that keep quality high
- Remove pages you do not need. Fewer pages means a smaller file with no loss on the pages that remain. Use Split PDF to take out only the pages you want, then compress.
- Scan smarter next time. If the document is black text on white paper, a black and white or "document" mode in your scanner app makes a much smaller file than a full colour photo.
- Always start from the original. Compressing an already compressed file again makes it look worse each time. If the first try was too big, go back to the original file and pick a stronger level.
Keep the original safe
Keep your original PDF even after you compress it. If you need to print the document later, or copy text out of it, the original will look better. Send the smaller copy only where size is a problem, such as a form upload or an email.

Frequently asked questions
Can I reduce PDF size without losing any quality at all?
Yes, with Lossless. Nothing on the page changes. But the file may only get a little smaller, because only the way it is stored changes, not the pages.
Why can I not select text after compressing?
Balanced and Smallest turn each page into a picture to save space. If you need selectable text, use Lossless or keep your original file.
Will the compressed PDF look blurry?
With Balanced, pages look clear on a screen. Very small print may look a little soft, and printed copies may look less sharp than the original.
Is it free?
Yes. Compress PDF is free with no sign-up and no daily limit.
Can I do this on my phone?
Yes. The tool works in your phone browser, and the file is processed on your phone.
