SSC signature size and live photo: how to get them right

SSC forms work a little differently from bank and UPSC forms. You do not upload a photo at all, but your signature file must be very small. This guide shows you how to get both parts right on your phone.

What the SSC notice asks for

The official SSC CHSL 2026 notice says:

  • Photo: you do not upload one. The form takes a live photo of you with the camera while you fill it in.
  • Signature: a JPG file between 10 KB and 20 KB, about 6 cm wide and 2 cm high.
  • A blurred or very tiny signature can get your form rejected.
  • You can apply on ssc.gov.in or on the "mySSC" app.

Every SSC exam has its own notice, and rules can change. Open the notice for your exam and search for "signature" and "photograph". If it says something different from this page, go by the notice.

Part 1: Get your signature ready

Step 1: Sign on white paper

  1. Take a plain white sheet. Do not use lined paper.
  2. Sign with a black or dark blue pen, the same way you always sign.
  3. Make it a normal size, not tiny. A signature that is too small looks blurred after the file is shrunk.

Step 2: Take a photo of it

  1. Put the paper on a flat table near a window or a bright light.
  2. Hold the phone straight above the paper so the signature does not look slanted.
  3. Crop the photo so only the signature and a thin white border are left. The shape should be wide and short, roughly three times as wide as it is tall.

Step 3: Bring it to 10–20 KB

A phone photo of a signature is usually much larger than 20 KB. To shrink it:

  1. Open the Photo & Signature Resizer.
  2. In "What is it for?", pick SSC signature: 10–20 KB.
  3. Add your signature photo and download the result.
  4. Check the size shown. It should be between 10 and 20 KB.

If your file ends up under 10 KB, the tool can raise it to the minimum without changing how it looks. You can also use Resize image to 20 KB, but then check the file is not below 10 KB.

Step 4: Check the file

  • The file must be JPG. If your phone saved it as PNG or HEIC, change it with Convert images.
  • Open it and zoom in. The signature should be sharp and easy to read.

Part 2: Pass the live photo step

The live photo is taken by the form itself, so no tool can do it for you. A little care helps it work the first time:

  1. Sit in a bright place with a plain wall behind you.
  2. Take off your cap, mask and glasses. The notice says these are not allowed.
  3. Hold the phone at eye level and look straight into the camera.
  4. Keep your whole face inside the outline on the screen, not too close and not too far.

Do not hold up a printed photo or a photo on another screen. The notice says a photo of a photo will be rejected.

Your files stay with you

Luvkaam resizes your signature on your own phone or computer. The file is not sent to Luvkaam.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to upload a passport photo for SSC?

Not for recent SSC exams like CHSL 2026. The form takes a live photo with your camera. Check your own exam notice to be sure.

My signature file is 35 KB. What do I do?

It is too big. Use the Photo & Signature Resizer with the SSC signature option, and it will bring the file inside 10 to 20 KB.

Can I use the same signature file for bank or Railway forms?

Often not. Bank and Railway forms set their own sizes. Keep your original signature photo and make a fresh copy for each form. See our guide on photo and signature size for exam forms.

Is 6 cm by 2 cm a file size?

No. It is the rough shape of the signature, wide and short. The file size rule is the 10 to 20 KB part.
