How to reduce a photo to 20 KB, 50 KB or 100 KB

A photo from a new phone is often 3 MB or more. An online form may allow only 20 KB. That is about 150 times smaller. Here is how to get there and still have a clear picture.

Why phone photos are so big

Phone cameras take very large pictures with a lot of detail. That is great for printing, but a form only needs a small picture to show your face. So most of that detail can go.

The quick way

  1. Pick the tool that matches your limit: Resize to 20 KB, Resize to 50 KB or Resize to 100 KB.
  2. Add your photo.
  3. Download the new file. It will be just under the limit.

Tips for a clearer result

  • Crop first. Cut away the extra wall and background around you. A smaller picture needs fewer KB, so your face stays sharper.
  • Use a plain background. A busy background with many colours takes more space than a plain wall.
  • Always start from the original. If you shrink a photo that was already shrunk, it gets blurry fast.
  • Use JPG. For photos, JPG is much smaller than PNG.

What if the form also gives pixels?

If the notice says something like "200 × 230 pixels, 20 to 50 KB", use the Photo & Signature Resizer instead. It fixes the pixels and the KB together.

What if the file is now too small?

Some forms have a minimum too, like "at least 10 KB". If your file is under that, the Photo & Signature Resizer can raise it to the minimum.

How to check the size on your phone

On Android, open the file in your Files app and tap the three dots, then Details or Info. On iPhone, open it in the Files app and press and hold, then tap Get Info. You will see the size in KB.

Is it safe?

Yes. The photo is made smaller on your own device. It is not sent to Luvkaam.
